How to connect the WhatsApp Business API, step by step
Everything you need to connect your number to the WhatsApp Business API: requirements, the steps in order, and common problems.
Before you start: what you need
- A personal Facebook account for the person doing the connection.
- A Meta business portfolio — created during the steps if you do not have one.
- A phone number that can receive an SMS or call for the verification code.
- A display name close to your company's real name.
- A payment method on the WhatsApp Business account for Meta's message charges.
The steps, in order
- 1. Open an account
- Sign up to FASLA CLOUD and open the WhatsApp numbers settings.
- 2. Start Embedded Signup
- Click connect, and Meta's official window opens — no code, no middleman.
- 3. Choose the business portfolio
- Pick an existing one or create a new one.
- 4. WhatsApp Business account and display name
- Create the WhatsApp Business account (WABA) and enter the display name.
- 5. Add and verify the number
- Enter the number and receive the code by SMS or call.
- 6. Go
- The number appears in the platform; start replying to customers and submit templates for approval.
Can I use my current number?
Yes, you can connect your current number. If it is in use on the WhatsApp or WhatsApp Business app, you may need to prepare it first the way Meta asks during the connection, and our team will help with those steps.
Tip: back up important chats before moving a number that is in use.
Getting the display name approved first time
- Keep it close to the company or brand name shown on your website or pages.
- Do not use generic words alone, such as "Customer Service" or "Offers".
- Spell the name correctly, without extra symbols.
Common problems and fixes
- The code does not arrive
- Try a call instead of SMS, and make sure the number can receive SMS.
- Display name rejected
- Match it to the company name shown online and resubmit.
- The number is in use on WhatsApp
- Prepare the number as Meta's instructions say during the connection, or ask us to help.
- Cannot send messages
- Check that a payment method is on the WhatsApp Business account and the template is approved.
After connecting
Add your team and set their permissions, submit your first templates for approval, and turn on an away message outside working hours. If anything goes wrong, our number-connection help page has the details, or talk to us on WhatsApp.
